I have a Brother P-Touch label printer that uses the 'M-tape' cartridge.

I labeled several cables situated about 600mm below the forward hatch - within a year UV has virually made them blank.

Can anyone identify and recommend a source for a UV resistant M-tape?

No, the M type is not laminated and not UV resistant. I made the mistake of buying an M type label writer without realising it is hopeless outdoors and fades straight away. To the OP, as far as I know Brother do not make any UV resistant tapes compatible with the M type printers. You will need a TZ compatible printer like the GL200 garden printer and a supply of TZe tape. This will set you back about 30 quid on amazon. I felt a bit peeved with Brother once I realised this problem as there is nothing on the M series printers or tapes that flags their poor UV resistance and it's easy to buy the wrong system as a result.

Labelzone have the PT-1010 for £12 which with a TZ cable Flex tape will be free delivery.

I've got a PT-1010 and use the laminated labels on my dive cylinders and they last a good couple of years without fading

You can get generic replacement laminated tape on ebay & Amazon much cheaper as well

Blimey - all this excellent advice - free !

Thanks everyone, pity about the Brother - Yes I agree, I would like to have known up front that their labels are hopeless exposed to UV.

Anyhow, off to buy a new printer.

Thanks again everyone.

Yup, ditto all that. The TZ tape is fine. You can nowadays get a printer that prints any font and image off your PC if you want, I mean you are no longer restricted to the pre programmed fonts that most TZ printers have

I've had a a Brother P2700 for about six years. Labels from LabelZone with high-tack (extra strong) adhesive for safety notes on farm and woodworking equipment. No problem with UV in the searing and relentless sunshine of Exmoor, but with some tapes the adhesive film and the top film contract at different rates, leading to a pucker.

Quite handy, being able to import a graphic from the PC onto a label, e.g. a "MP Grease here", sharp edge and other H&S symbols.

Labelzone v good about advice. BTW
