Broom

Ah yes, families. So you're well and truly into compromise already. But what do I know. After a sucession of 'normal' boats, I now drive about in 15 tonnes of Dutch steel. The Dutch have forgotten more about interior design than most British builders will ever learn but seeing as we live on-board for up to 6 months a year, its the most important consideration. Even had a bath on our last one!!

yea why did they put it under the bed i suppose it is to balance the boat out. have you got a huge oil tank on the port side under the deck. i like the dutch barges there nice

Ah, 'twas only in jest... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif - Actually we looked a lot at the Linssen boats as I quite liked the 'comfort' of a steel hull, but found it very difficult to find one (that we could afford) with twin engines, and they roll even more that the Broom does /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ashers, we have two tanks - 100G each - one starboard under the main seating area, and one on the port under the cupboards - I would expect yours to be the same? - Have you not found the second one yet?

'Calm down dear its only a boat.........'

Anyway Clive, its been long enough now since you got rid of your Crown that we can probably count you as rehabilitated! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Our first one, a Valk, had twin engines, 200hp Volvos. At nearly 50ft LOA and 25 tonnes, it was capable of 25kph (or so the brochure claimed) but pushing that through the water at anything like a brisk pace produced a wash of tsunami proportions!

Ah Dutch, I'm a fan of many displacement dutch steel cruisers. The only drawback is many of the layouts are designed for either "day socialising" or two on board (ie one head), whereas the like of Brooms were designed for extended family cruising. Very similar concepts and fittout styling though compared to the sterile interior white plastic bling of other builders. Dutch skippers seem to bulk buy WD40! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Thats fair comment but as its just the two of us on board for our extended cruising, it suits us fine. Means we get a very spacious 'lounge', proper dining table and a master cabin bigger than in some houses. But I remember looking at one boat and remarking to the broker that the front cabin was less than generous in just about every respect and getting the reply 'Well, what do you expect? Its only intended for guests, you know'. Just about sums it up!!

It has been mentioned(by someone else entirely ) that for those who are less than spritely and of somewhat more mature years, getting nourishment/refreshments from down in the dank bowels of a Br....m up all those blimming stairs and out on to the rather windswept bit over the aft cabin can be a bit of trial and sometimes is not worth all the effort. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Huh! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif 4 gentle steps into totally sheltered and enclosed cockpit complete with heating! On warm sunny days push a button the the tent folds away - best of both worlds fly in the sun or snow proof /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Brooms " the the tent folds away "
The only boat that makes a galleon in full sail look distinctly under canvassed /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
