We bought a Broom 9/70 a few years ago. Best boat we've ever owned accommodation wise, build quality wise and so easy to handle. Love it.

I know you've probably got to sell yours first but there's a 1978 35 European just gone up for sale at Penton Hook sales. "Timeless" owned by Keith Harding who done loads to it in the time he's had it and only selling through health problems.

Yes, looked at Timeless last weekend. We have moored next to Timeless from time to time in Penton Hook marina and know Keith. Certainly would fit the bill but Penton dont do part ex so it is sell Silver Dragon first. We have also looked at Kaleedon which would also suit us.

Ramage, 55 is not really Broom territory yet... Boatone's only just got his Broom!!
I actually really rate Brooms (just below Princess....) but I'm not getting one till I retire
(and even then I may slow down and go steel, gasp!)

IMHO.......
If your pocket is deep enough to buy a fairly new boat that has benefited from modern corrosion techniques and has been fastidiously maintained by an over protective obsessive previous owner then whats not to like.
However, the amount of steel boat you can get for your money, does indicate how the market feels about elderly steel boats in general.
At least with glass fibre, you can virtually forget the hull from the day you purchase,with steel you had better start saving ,that paint and those hull plates will be wasting away from day one.You have about 5-10 years to get the cash together.Painting hull outside is simple ,still, crawling around the bilges inside boat with a wire brush and painting welding seams might be some peoples idea of fun.
It is not cheap to haul replate and then repaint a steel hull...if you can find somebody local capable of doing the work.
Still, it will keep you out the pub...and at least its not wood.

Temp repair feel fine, but banned from doing anything interesting for 6 weeks!! Boat really needs a wash too..

I agree Flynnbarr. Broom 1070 is a very nice boat. The one you mention :

Although it is advertised with Newark, it's actually moored on the Severn near Worcester, next lot of moorings up from me. It seems to be in good condition, but has been for sale for a while and I'm surprised it hasn't had any takers as it seems a very fair price.

I am not 100% sure but I think that was sold by Newark about 4 years ago, at that time it had about 4k hours, not saying that was/is a problem just information.

I think that one has been for sale for nearly two years. IMHO they need to clear out the personal clutter. It's being presented very poorly to achieve a sale. And the curtain, upholstery, carpet combination is not doing it any favours. And for me added electronics with trailing wires are always a turn off. People find it hard to see past the cosmetics if they have no vision. But at that price it would give you the opportunity to spruce it up with furnishings/equipment.
I also suspect that keeping it on the mooring is not a good idea if access/viewing is difficult. Tried to view a boat once on a private mooring and was dictated to as to when we could view at at what time. Needless to say we bought elsewhere.
Ran a 10/70 on the Thames for two years. Brilliant use of space, easy to handle and still good looking.
