I've been looking at a Broom Ocean 42 (1980s era).

Given that these are pretty old boats, the asking prices seem fairly high.

- At this age is sourcing replacement parts fo the engines (Volvo) going to be difficult?

- Obviously they don't have a CE rating due to their age, but based on the newer Brooms if they did it would probably be B?

- Anyone have an idea of fuel efficiency for them in displacement mode?

- Thoughts on how they compare with an Aquastar?

Ocean 42 make a great boat , most had the 60B and C engines 235 and 255 up, expect lightly loaded 16/18 knot cruise speed , last of the run had the 61A306 hip engines .
Hull is a semi displacement with a 3/4 length keel.
Various layouts available.
Some parts getting obsolete now on the cooler side .
Robust engine but expect oil leaks and white smoke on cold start up.
By now any model will need tic , possibly exhausts , silencers and exhaust elbows which were made by Brooms own fabrication team in house so expect to be renewing rotted away pipes .

As always get a survey on both structure and mechanical , I have worked on most of the Broom range over the years and re engined quite a few.

I wanted some basic engine maintenance done before she travelled 4 hours for hauling out / survey (absolutely nothing has been done for 4 years), owner did not agree.

A friend recently bought one that had been fitted out by Humber instead of Broom. Huge internal volume and his half VP63P 370’s fitted around 14 years ago. Under the floor is seriously impressive.
