The Ocean 37 layout gives two singles aft and two singles forward with a convertion double in the saloon. I just wondered if there is enough room aft or forward to fit an island double or a double that can be accessed from both sides. I know some people have made an offset double in the aft cabin, but this is not what we want.

Thanks in advance. :)

On our crown we have made the v-berth up forward into a massive double bed while still retaining standing room. The aft cabin has the big island berth but we also dont have the corridor galley down aft so I would have thought your only option would surely be an offset double.

We did wonder about the v-berth and the possibility of having a raised double with storgage underneath, but in a way that allowed access to the bed from both sides perhaps a step each side or something like that. Just not sure if it would fit. You seem to have managed, so seems a possibility. Thanks.

Yea we did something a bit different, we still have the v-berths in place but have just expanded them but not with infills. We used a new layer of wood on top of the v-berths and then a new mattress on top so you can still only get at the bed from the middle. Plus you still have the opportunity to make the bed back into a v-berth

It's possible to fit an island bed in aft cabin similar to the one in the Crown but will require new fuel and water tanks and quite a bit of pipe work so there will also be a large cost involved but it can be done.

Thats what I suspected thank you... So If we buy the Ocean 37 we can adapt the v-berth in some way to make a double, which will work. In a way it will probably be better for us with 4 teenagers. They can have the single berths and we get to stay in the saloon. When we wake up early we have access to the kitchen while they are still asleep.. LOL.

I like the layout of the offset galley area on the Ocean, but I also like the crown for the island double... Decisions decisions... :D

How much do you have to spend?

Thats dependant on what boat we coose to buy... Buy now and it's the Ocean 37... Wait a while and we will have enough for the Crown.

I have a sneaky feeling we will have a wonderful summer this year, just because we chose to wait... Hahaha.

We love the crown, none of us really liked the boat when we first got it but now it is just brill. It does everything so effortlessly, although just wish it went a bit faster. If you do get one of them get the one with the biggest engines you can if you plan on any sea passages, a bit slow otherwise.

We have seen some with 150hp and others with 185hp. We would like to go tidal with the club we belong to, but not sure we would go on any major trips. Have to have another look. :)

We had an Ocean 37 a couple of boats ago......whilst it is possible to convert the aft cabin to a double berth the reality is ( as already mentioned) that it will be costly and perhaps more to the point it will never look quite right, which will be an issue when you come to sell.

I recall looking at one on the Thames before we bought ours and it had the central chest of drawers moved to sit on the stbd berth, with the port berth modified to be a double. It had been done well in terms of workmanship but it just wasn't right.....

If you really want an island berth then look for a Crown at the right price IMHO. Modifications to a boat may suit you but chances are they won't suit prospective purchasers when you want to change....

I agree. I think we will end up looking for a well priced Crown that ticks our boxes, or get an Ocean but not modify it and make the saloon nice for the double birth with the kids on board this may suit us better to be honest. Have to keep looking. :)

Hubby also has his eye on a couple of Fairlines..... We have time. :)

I just hope everyone will thank us for the glorious summer they have while we are boatless... :D

Unfortunately that is the case. :) We do not want to get a loan, we believe that boating is a luxury and we are very lucky to be able to have a boat. We want to get the best boat to tick our boxes, without borrowing. If we wanted a loan then a nice Broom 42 would be our choice. Hahahaha.
Theres allways a nicer/better/larger etc etc... :D

Reality for us... remains... Broom european or broom crown.

I keep looking at broom crowns... Just have to wait an see now. :)

Yea ours has the 185hp and it just about goes fast enough and will plane.
You can see what we have done to our front cabin on boatshed Btw

We are hooked.. Had a great first year even with the weather. We didn't thnk the kids would be interested but they are, so the boat is too small for all of us and the girlfriends/friends that come too. It a shame as we put a lot into the boat with servicing/other bits (hubby's area :) ) I did the cosmetic bits :) it will make a lovely boat for someone though. Would be nice if its someone else new to boating and they get hooked like we are now. :D
So yes you were right. :)
