Some time ago posted about a Broom 33 with pair of 180HP Mercruisers, not getting anything like the claimed max speed.
Originally Broom claimed around 22 knots with a pair of 200hp Volvos.
All filters replaced and turbos checked.
Boat was hauled jetwashed and anti fouled and the 4 blade props sent off to be refurbed/ balanced and the pitch altered to achieve max RPM.
Belived the props where oringinally 3 blade but previous owner swapped for 4 blade.
The results.
Both engines now reach max at WOT. However the top speed has not altered one jot.
The verdict. Lovely boat for non tidal and estuary , suspect it may be up for sale soon.

Well I guess if speed matters to the owner it may well go on the market but I suspect that it will do a respectable cruising speed? We cruise at 12 knots, which many on here would consider slow but on Scuttleebut would be seen as a very respectable speed! ?
 
The skipper concerned previously had Turbo 36.
The lack of speed only really comes into perspective when the other 12 boats in the cruise fleet have all disappeared well over the horizon and your Broom has only just got to the North Foreland after departing Ramsgate, with less than a 1/4 of the distance covered on a journey home.
He could sell the boat in the blink of an eye but the problem would be finding another.
Skipper moored behind me has actually had two inquiries from brokers as to if he would be interested in selling his boat.
 
I know what you mean - cruising in company is a tad tricky if you can’t keep up. Many moons ago we switched from a Broom Ocean 37 to a Fairine Targa 35 because our friends all had sports cruisers.

As an aside we met a couple from your club in a Turbo 36 in Woodbridge a couple of weeks ago. They were having mixed thoughts on whether or not to go through with a plan to truck it to the west coast of Scotland for a few months. I thought it sounded like an excellent plan!

That would be Bob and Marian. Bob has just about done every job in RCC over past 30 years, Sometimes two or three times.
Our go to guy when somebody resigns in a hissey fit and nobody else is daft enough to do the job or we do not have some new member who has no idea what he is about to take on. .
Marion finally has put her foot down, its now or never for Scotland.
Bob was a commercial skipper and has have done the trip many times but in a somewhat larger vessel.
Has of course a few tales about when things go seriously wrong in that part of the world.
