I want to know how much he has been promised for No Regrets!

(PM me John!)

I do hope he got a substantial discount on the asking price for the Broom.

£35,000 for a 30 year old Broom 30 astonishes moi!

Blimey, by that yardstick my Pedro 36 must be worth more than Apollo could even dream of spending on a boat /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for the welcome Tony /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

In fairness, I like most boats. Our first year on the Shetland was abrubtly halted when we found we were being looked down on by canoeists, the floor was so low, and Shamby, a lovely little boat, proved a joy to use on a Sunny day, but not at all good to sleep aboard.

We thought the Birchwood would be fine to sleep on, and were not wrong, she's a joy in every way, but was a victim of her own success, as we now want to spend longer periods aboard, and possibly with guests.

Hence the requirement for something with more space /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As for Ramage and Flashheart, I hope they will learn from this and not be so quick to embrace any other johnny comes latelys that try to seduce them with websites and wode in future.

If anyone else with a Broom 30 is lurking I would run a mile or three if I were you........ /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Ah well at least the pre "No Regrets" reputation of the 25 should be restored upon completion of the sale. There's a persuasive 'Don't drop out of the sale' knife poised in the back of the buyer now he's started on us lot /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Steady on tone, you are starting to hallucinate...you'll be seeing lockeepers on duty next! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Dont worry about all these infidels, once you have changed the net curtains you wont need to look at the riff raff any more.

Was the single engined Broom 30 with 90hp Perkins "First Lady of Yarmouth"?

[/ QUOTE ] Sorry Ian, can't remember. But at my age you can't expect me to. And it was back in.....er....er.....Well some years ago anyway! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

and beyond Osney bridge (Yes, tremble like the carrot crunching Oxford dogs you are, I now have a foldy-down windscreen)

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe. But unless this 30 is a special (and there was one on the Thames) your foldy windscreen still won't get you under Osney. As the Broom brochure records, for the upper reaches of the Thames they made the Skipper with a fold-down wheel-house

Doesn't the Broom 30's with folding widscreens (Broom Skippers?) get under Osney with ease? And wasn't there a member of the Oxford Ditch with a wooden topped Broom 30 (Nemo?) designed especially to get under although fixed wheelhouse?

[/ QUOTE ] I don't bloody well believe it! When I mentioned this to the good Lady Ann, she went and unearthed the Feb. 2001 copy of MBM and immediately found a picture of said Broom 30, the Elsie Lily. How on earth did she know it was there? And what the hell am I doing hoarding seven year-old magazines? Now she's got me really worried. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Nemo was the one I was thinking of. Ex-John Bradley and I believe miket owned it for albeit, a very short period. I seem to recall Nemo had been built to order with a lowered superstructure but no doubt miket or Byron could confirm this.

On the Skipper the whole wheel-house folds so there is no 'upstairs' As you say, gets under Osney with ease.

Yes! NEMO did have a modification allowing her to pass under Osney. I think really she was a cross between a Skipper and a 30. When she was sold I think the price was £7,000 or £9,000.
She needed a fair bit of work though but was still good value.

Now I'm saddened. Thinking of delightful John Bradley god rest him.

"8 foot too much is it?"

We have an air draft of 8' 3", but have taken 6 domestic dustbins, which stack so you can use for storage, put them across the back deck/rear of wheelhouse full of water, move all the pig iron from the front to the rear, fill the bilges, and get under just about.

Godstow's far more worrying though.

Do we need an offical Forum whip round to purchase the proud new Broom skipper a flat cap? I am sure someone could make a little forum burgee logo to sew onto the side:-)
The pipe and slippers remain his own problem! Good luck with the process.

Never has changing a boat generated so much forum interest. Over a thousand views now /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
