Having removed about 60 brass screws from the topsides of my Sharpie with great difficulty, should I replace them with silicon bronze ones.

Can someone please tell me that they don't cost £1.35 for two!!!

It'll depend on the size of the srews, of course. The last box of bronze screws that I bought [2 inch x 12g]came to AU$1.00 per screw, a cheap rate because I bought a whole box of 100! [By the way, a dollar in Australia buys the same as a pound in Britain] So I keep those screws for underwater repairs, where compatability with the copper fastenings of the hull is important. Above the waterline I generally use more affordable stainless steel screws and bolts. I would think that in the case of your sharpie, it might depend on how close to other copper-based fastenings [e.g. copper rivets] you are going to use them. Also a boat used in fresh water can get away with a lot more than one used in salt water.

Anglia stainless steel. Close to George! Talk to him. They have a huge range of bronze screws, forget the stainless, this is an antique!! Thats where I buy all mine form, you should have asked when you were down, got heaps of them!!

I agree with ccscot49 Anglia Stainless seem to offer the best deals in town on bronze fixings. I would buy a box of 100 you get a much better price, it will probably be cheaper than buying 60.

Got to be Anglia - excellent service and nice people (in a nice village as well as if that mattered) - 01359-251414 or 251417 - angliastainless.co.uk

And a girlie calendar...

Yes, Anglia Stainless, and buy a box of 100.

(They do a nice line in girlie calendars, every trad boayard in the Eastern Counties has at least one in the workshop - dunno how many screws = one calendar. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Here I am sat in my office with a box of 200 8 x 1.5 and a box of 200 12 x 1.5 silicon bronze screws on my desk.

You want some?

Think I might have some 10's at home.

Thanks Ben, I've replied to your mail.

Maybe I should buy some for Colin as an incentive to let me back aboard Englander once I've finished this stupid project. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
