Last year I fitted a new seacock and adaptor ( VP call it a nipple
) to my saildrive. The nipple
came from VP.
This year I had a reason to remove the seacock and nipple, but I noticed that there was a small area within the threads of the nipple that screw into the saildrive (ally) that were pink.
With all that we have learned over the last 12 months about brass and bronze fittings, its my understanding that pink indicates dezincification in brass. I have spoken to 2 VP dealers and both reckon that the fitting is bronze or DZR at least. At the price it was it ought to be gold!
I can refit the nipple but it is really difficult to undo at another time and the next time it may be because it has failed. Anyone got any suggestions?
