We're currently looking at a boat for sale in Malta.
Anyone got any experience of these people: Yachting Partners?

So far, their answers have been somewhat vague and I'm keen to avoid a wasted trip out there.

Thanks

Brokers

Be wary of brokers. I've come across three totaly unscrupulous brokers in France, Switzerland and UK in my search for a boat. Vague answers are often the first sign of something to hide.

They seem allright to me. Just make sure that you tell them of your intentions well before you set off and make sure you have full details in writing. Anyway there are more brokers and private yachts for sale in Malta so why not go for it,

Good luck

Peter

Hi Tin Tin.

I'm a broker and also a long time forum resident. I haven't heard any negatives about them, but don't know how long they have been around either.

Which boat are you looking at and what details are they being vague about?

One thing that may be worth being careful with would be any VAT issues, as Malta has been used for some schemes, especially with leasing or charter schemes. Doesn't necessarily mean a problem, but you should double check all the documents are in order.

I am assuming they are the only/main Hanse dealers on the island/s. If so, I was moored in front of the "boss" when I first arrived in Malta in October 2007. He and his wife had just sailed a new Hanse 43 from the Northern Med. to Malta. I think he is called Sean, (but I may be wrong).

If it's the same guy, he/they seemed nice enough, and very friendly. He gave me some good advice about the marina at Portomaso and the Gregale. Also came well recommended by Bob, (ex member of this parish who lives in Malta, and who was extremely helpful and welcoming during my time there).

Having said that... in Malta, in general, you need eyes in the back of your head when doing any kind of deal.
