broker arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

For future reference, people might consider the use of Debit Cards for paying money over to a broker.

We have just sold our trailer sailer to a chap who used his debit card to pay the funds over to the broker. The whole transaction took about 10 mins (a security 'phone call was needed) and the chap drove away towing the boat behind him.

The Broker had suggested the debit card as the best way to purchase as no commission and instant transfer. They said it was their preferred method of payment and they had used it for transactions in excess of £100K.

They issued the bill of sale immediately and discharged our mortgage the same day. We were very impressed with the broker.
 
Hmm - when we tried this (Switch card) we were told that it still doesn't "clear" the same day.... hence a very quick CHAPS transfer was agreed (which the Broker did pay for as they told us Switch would've been fine!!)

But they were fully charged ,, I know they were ,, they were still in the charger at home /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
 
Further development.....

The broker has just called to say that the whole situation is too risky from an insurance point of view, so rather than face that risk, they are, on Thursday, transferring funds to the lender to clear the previous mortgage, transferring funds from the lender to establish my mortgage, and taking a risk on both my cheques not clearing, and me cancelling the finance before start of play Tuesday..... neither of which I would be able to do easily over a bank holiday weekend out at sea anyway!

A positive stance.... much more pragmatic, and one that has fully redeemed the broker in my eyes.... after a very rocky patch, they have gone considerably out of their way to get things sorted for me, including taking what from their perspective must seem like quite a large financial risk.....

They came through in the end, but let's not go over the top here.

I wonder how many people will, like me, if they're ever shopping for a boat give Ancasta a miss?
Buying or selling a boat is stressful enough as it is - a broker is supposed to make the thing run smoothly; not add extra agro /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
We looked at several boats on their books last year and was not overly impressed then. This episode just confirmed my impression.
 
Yes they made a mistake But how they recovered from their

mistake and took ownership of the problem was excellent
