broken water goat - I mean hydraulic ram - Help please !

I try very hard to avoid bending things, especially on machinery, but while clearing a three year old horsemuck heap this afternoon, I hit a rock and the piston on the bucket actuator suffered a human-induced compression failure.

The collar at the exit end of the ram is also cracked, and leaking spectacularly under pressure.


Do any of you clever engineering types out there have any recommendations for ram menders and fettlers, or is it a question of "Go and buy a new one"

There's an ag engineer near me, where that sort of thing gets mended. And I guess there will be a score or more of others between Dulverton and Bath.

The question will always be "Yes, I can fix it. But is it beyond economic repair, considering the cost of my time, the cost of a new one, and your downtime?"

Don't you have access to a bunch of tweenagers doing Community Service...?

I don't know which moors you are located at but Air Power and Hydraulics ltd. Hillington Park, Glasgow would sort your problem.
I took a steering ram of unknown manufacture to them last year. The seals which could not be replaced off-the-shelf were manufactured from scratch and the cylinder was honed for less than £100.
