We have just booked a week on a boat on the Norfolk Broads. Starting from Somerleyton on the Waveney in a couple of weeks.
We have been on the Broads a couple of times in the past so we know what to expect, but does anyone have any recommendations for towns, villages, pubs etc etc to visit or avoid?
Since its a hire boat we won't be allowed in any of the big marinas.

its a must to have dangely fenders at all times

The ship @ reedham is a good pub, check out the steak pie!
nelsons head @ reedham is rustic but friendly
ferry house @ surlingham is a great pub with superb food
woods end @ brammerton is also a good pub, basic food menu as kitchen is being refurbed.
bell @ st.olaves is pricey but a km walk up the road to fritton is the decoy tavern, much cheaper.
reedham ferry is also very pricey.
I only go to these places for research purposes you understand....

Coldham Hall ...is excellent and the Beauchamp Arms at Buckenham Ferry much better than you might expect.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations.

I suppose I should have said in the original post that we will be taking two teenagers and the ships pooch with us. Hope all these pubs will let the dog in. Somehow I don't think it will be the weather for dining outside.

I will remember the dangly fenders. I suspect they are impossible to remove from a hire boat. Having seen the way most hire boats are driven I would certainly never own a boat on the Broads without it being completely encased in huge fenders!

Sorry SP2 for not answering your question. Basicalli I don't know yet. We are only going for a week so is it worth going through Great Yarmouth twice to get to the Northern Broads and then back in a week?

You can easily do there and back from south to north in a week, but it does need planning, depending on the air draft under the they Yarmouth bridges, and you have a long way to get to a civilised location once through Yarmouth going north. The tide is pretty rapid too.

I've had a number of early season Broads hols, and enjoyed them all
