There's not a lot on the southern side. We had a season based in Beccles and my wife complained that it was "all going and coming back".
I take your point and I guess it depends upon expectations. For us, the southern rivers offer some pleasant cruising with enough decent pubs / overnight spots and socialising with like minded folk to keep us happy, BUT, we also like to spread our wings and head off down the coast. We have aspirations for cruising further afield when time allows and when we bought our current boat on the south coast last year we enjoyed a couple of months based on the Hamble.
