Sorry if I'm telling you what you already know, but BT today went live with their much wider broadband coverage. We have not been able to get it at home for years becos too far from exchange, but as of this morning we can have it so it gets installed next week. Apparently most of the homes previously too far from the exchange are now in range. Even byron will no longer have to dial up.

Nothing to do with exchange enablement, it's about the distance you can be from the exchange

I didn't say it did have anything to do with exchange enablement, but it's a bit premature to start congratulating BT when over a 1000 exchanges are still not DSL enabled, thus making it irrelevant how far you live from them.

My second link shows when these exchanges will allegedly be enabled, but as I remember being told by a senior BT director that they would all be enabled by the end of 2002, I shall not hold my breath! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

A friend of mine saw that BT needed 200 people interested and registering interest for BT to consider DSL-enabling his exchange. He duly started a small campaign and suceeded in getting the registered number up to 160 or so. BT's response? They increased the number required to 400!

Last time I moved house they couldn't even install phone + DSL on the same day, had to be a 48hr gap they said.....shame my previous cable co at the old house did everything in an hour.....

BT, customer service, don't make me larf, maybe when you actually have DSL installed it might be worth something (although I'm not sure to which other company you would be so grateful for them allowing you to purchase their product), but great announcements of "going live".... no, I'm not going to get excited about that thanks.

Bear in mind they won't commit to DSL being installable on your line until they've finished installing it.......

If I sound a little bitter, it's because I spent three years putting together many six figure telecoms deals, a portion of which was then handed to BT on a silver platter.

Unfortunately handing them hundreds of thousands of pounds of hard-won business with no effort required on their part, was not sufficient for them to actually meet any of the deadlines they agreed to and in many cases not sufficient to actually motivate themselves to do anything at all! /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

Their commercial indifference must've lost me the best part of a Botnia Targa 31 with a couple of D6's!!!! /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Think there are 2 issues here.

Whether broadband is available at the exchange and distance from exchange to your house.

I miss out on both. Until recently no plans for our local exchange to get BB cos no-one except me an a few other eccentrics were interested.

BT have now decided to go for 100% of exchanges bb enabled by sometime next year (or the year after)

So I will have access in July 2005 - allegedly

It now seems that I might now get some sort of service (probably at reduced speed)

BTs regional director recently did a "presentation" to our local council. It appears that they are doing us all a tremendous favour by allowing some people at least to actually buy there products. All our fault of course for not living in the right place.

But thanks for the info
