I have BT...recently increased to 2MB and 30GB download.
It works well....cost £29.99pm but for some reason they have reduced the cost to £27 pm for 3 months.
I have a wireless router so up to 4 of us use the connection at once and you do not notice any slow-down. I needed a lot of work doing on the line/exchange and went with BT as I thought they would sort out all the problems quickly if they were the broadband supplier. They did an excellent job for me, they answered the telephone when I rang them (seem to be based in Scotland) and the chaps who came climbing up the post etc. were helpful and OK to deal with.

Can anyone tell me what speed connection I have? The icon says that I am connected at 576000 bps which is I assume bits per second. Do I assume that this is a 512 connection or am I barking up the wrong tree.

I am asking because we currently still pay Wanadoo £27.99 a month and I suspect we are being ripped off and need to change ISP! Therefore I need to know the speed to compare companies offers. Many thanks!

I use AOL - why, oh why, oh WHY!!!!! Simple answer - once its on your PC you cant get it off again..... it survives even on a reformatted HD! Yes really! I cleaned off my HD recently as it had accumulated a load of junk (thanks Microsoft!), did a full reformat, reloaded XP, booted up, and lo and behold there were 'AOL saved files' icons on the desktop before I had loaded anything else back in.

Thanks for the advice and inspired by the forum I have phoned Wanadoo.

They have (a little redfaced) upgraded us to 1Mb, given us next month free, and reduced our monthly fee to £17.99.

Officially there is a 2Gb limit, but they said that they are only monitoring usage, and suggesting people upgrade if they continuously exeed their 'limit'.

Free Speed Test...

John, you can run a free speed test by clicking here. You won't be getting anything like the 576000bps (576kbps) you're supposed to have, but you should be getting close to 300kbps most of the time. I'm on BT Broadband 576kbps, and I've just run the test and got 295kbps.

Just connecting to Virgin today, free connection and modem then £17.99 month for 512kbs and 3 gb down load per month. Have used their 24/7 for a couple of years and no complaints. Hopefully next time I connect broadband will be on.....fingers crossed.

Paul.
