British seagull outboards.

The embarassment of the ever expanding pool of fuel oil on the surface of the water, and our own smog cloud made my mind up to get a new fangled mercury 3.3.

what a revelation.

Seagul was fun, and always drew comments when we arrived anywhere. I was never worried about it being stolen either.

How many of them have you bought?

If you need them in quantity, it doesn't say much for their longevity.

I've had several Jap engines (2str) but the Seagull outlasts them and never has a problem with the jets getting blocked.

Seagulls dont have carb jets...they have irrigation culverts!!

I have 3 small four stroke engines on separate boats. No Seagull can meet my requirements.

I really want one of these engines. I guess in much the same way as sometimes I find the reliability and ease of use of my modern 5 series really dull, and often elect to drive an uncomfortable, slow, noisy, unreliable, inefficient Land Rover just for the sheer hell of it. And much as I fancy one throwing out a cloud of environmental terrorism on the back of my tender, I have this urge to buy a non-runner, cosmetically restore it and polish it to within an inch of it's life and hang it on the wall somewhere as a conversation piece.

I salute you Sir, I wish I had the space to do the same :)

I have a 40D which my father bought in the 70s and it is a thing of joy to use. It ticks over more slowly and more evenly than any other outboard I have ever used and never fails to start. It hasn't done many hours - I wonder if all Seagulls were as good as that new.

I recently discovered the Seagull repair centre near me, might be handy, I have two centuries and am looking at a boat that comes with another....

Seems to be something wrong with that link.Or maybe I am doing something wrong.

I get this when I tried to access any of the website pages:

my bro in 1956 had an Aurora aquajet, a weird machine with a downward facing prop that sucked up the water and pumped it out the back, sucking the stern of the boat under in the process. My next experience was a pre war silver century with a two blade prop and the round brass tank.

I just googled it, the only result is my post about it here in 2006.

Works fine for me in Chrome and Firefox, both on a Mac

Maybe google classic seagull? Oh, no just done the same to me.....

My main memory of a Seagull is as a small child being whipped across the ear by the knot on the end of the starter rope as my dad tried to make it go :)

Pete

When Dave Selby (Of PBO fame) was at our club he was in his dinghy with his wretched jack russel in the bow yapping & standing on the seat with front legs on the edge.
Dave pulled the cord on his Seagull - which did not start- clipped the rear end of the dog behind him. Wherein the dog then attacked him savaging his elbow. Dave had the keep trying shake the damned thing off whilst trying to start the seagull. I just wished i had my camera. PBO would have paid £50-00 for a view of that

That's all they are good for; hang it on the wall......

Old chap mackerel fishing, got the line round the flywheel, ended up crouched in the bottom of the boat with a 2lb lead and set of feathers skimming his hair until it stalled.

persuaded my Dad to buy our 40 featherweight new in June 1967 so it was 50 last year.
I still use it for my tender with its 10 to one mix which is what preserves the engine.
Follow the cold and hot start rules and its still second pull.
No recoil to disintergrate or a load of coweling to remove if work needs doing in situ.
All its had is a new prop and some origional spark plugs sourced for it all be it two cost me £10
