British Registry - worthwhile?

If you have a Part One registration and it has expired I think you have to go through the whole, fairly expensive, registration process again. Please check that. A renewal doesn't need that just cash and confirmation that no details have changed.

Part One also lists the owners of the 62 shares. Anyone can contact the MCA to check if there is a mortgage on the boat, good news when selling.

If you have SSR I have no idea about it.

It is 64 shares, not 62. The SSR is simply registration, not a record of ownership. All fully explained on the MCA site.

A sort of related question?
I've had a look a a couple of boats in Belgium and Germany. If I bought one do I need to re-registered in UK or if I don't need to is it prudent to do so?

There is no compulsory registration for a UK boat, but essential if you intend sailing out of UK territorial waters. As already suggested, full details of the pros and cons on the RYA and MCA site. If you do buy a boat registered in another country, it will almost certainly need to be removed from that country's register - usualy the responsibility of the seller, and a broker would ensure that this is done properly.
