Some of you might know that I own 2 small boats built by the British Powerboat Company at Hythe on Southampton Water. For a while I have been building a list of surviving craft. So far as I know, there is 10 boats, plus one other I need to go see if I can find.

I have finally created a rudimentary webpage listing the boats.

The two that I have are Red Fox (named after Scott Paine) and Dragonfly. I'm about to advertise Red Fox for sale to raise the funds to pay for some work on Dragonfly.

Some beautiful boats there! Why you selling the completed hull and not the other?

Red Fox has been substantially rebuilt and has been epoxy cloth sheathed.

When the rebuild of Dragonfly is undertaken I have given the brief to the shipwright that no epoxy, no ply, no polyurethane, no stainless. Only traditional period correct materials are to be used.

I want the boat that will be most authenitc, as opposed to the one requiring least maintenance.

Oh, and Dragonfly is prettier!

But you're right if its to be done, best to use period fittings and materials.

I have an original copy of the book The Motor Boat Manual 11th edition ( date 1936 ) which has a few wee bits on TBPB Co & a ref to Sea-Jokers

I attach scan copies here & will email them to you also

This is the front page of the 14th October 1938 Motor Boat & Yachting, which was an advert for the British Power Boat Co. Ltd

I thought there were many of these still around, eg ex target towers, harbour launches etc.

Indeed, quite a number of the larger military type craft around, but the smaller pleasure and racing boats are few and far between.

I've taken the plunge and advertised one of mine on a few websites, apolloduck, B and OB, CMBA.

We'll see what interest I get. I'm open to haggle!
 
There is a boat (hull) very similar to these parked outside an old smithy on the Plymouth Kingsbridge road its under tarps and have always wondered what it was. Perhaps someone in the area knows what it is, approx 30' length.

Very interesting, we are heading to the West Country in a few weeks....

Well, as I promised, I'm running a reverse auction, I'm going to drop the price everyweek and see how we get on. Just amended the ads down by a couple of hundred quid.
 
The Motor Boat Manual 11th edition

Tremlett`s pictures jogged my memory and Ive dug out my fathers copy of the above. The hard cover has separated from the bound pages at the front only and there are a few jottings in pencil on the `blank` last page, other than that it`s nicely patinated.
I would like it to go to a good home and will send it on receipt of a cheque for £20 made out to RNLI. BB gets preference. P.M. me if interested.
NB 11th editions are rare and are ranked in some circles with the Dead Sea Scrolls and like land they`re not making (printing) it any more ! VITALBA

Wow!

They do look very like Jolly boats and I would have said they were, had it not been for one thing, that twin cockpit boat at the very end is either Panther III or Red Fox (the boat I have for sale) or their sister ship.

That's exciting for me!

I suspect, if not vosper boats, they might be Whippet, Puppy dog (dont think so), Puma (dont think so) or maybe BPB Sea Joker.

Great Film
Those boats are BPBCo 'Planing Dinghys', woith the last boat probably a Sea Lion, but not sure.
The planing dinghies are basically the same as a Sea Joker.
