Courtessy of Danny at Lauren Marine in Southampton. Interesting move. I might take credit as I was at Laurens the day Hunters went bust and suggested it to Danny then, although I was suggesting getting the 707 mould in fairness. I hope it works out for him as he is a top boat. I also hope he is going to have the time to do some work on Feeling Rough this autumn!

Sales of the 707 will struggle IMHO. The sports boat fleet is pretty fickle. J24s, 1720s, Melges 24, 707 et al have all come and gone. How long will the SB3 stay as favorite?

Oh don't get me wrong. We were not going to relaunch the 707, just use the mould to come up with a derrivative pocket cruiser with decent performance.

Indeed part of Selects failing was the 20Sport effort. A bilge keel sports boat was never going to be a success but with a lift keel and priced competitively, I think it could really attack the market where the SB3 is to mono-dynamic and the J80 to expensive.

Does a sports boat need more than one dynamo?

I'm not sure of the market for new pocket cruisers, it makes more sense to buy used, even when the builders don't go bust.
 
An SB3 is great fun to race but that is all it can do. Two chaps can't go away for a weekend like they can in a J24 and or a J80 (or indeed a 707 if they have a real sense of humour).

There will always be people who want to buy new, even if it means poor value for money. That is why Legend exist. So if you can give them good value for money as well then even better.

In times of stretch, filling in the lower price bracket of the market makes a fair amount of sense, especially if you market the savings in owning a smaller boat.

That said, I was not so convinced as to go for it myself was I?
 
It has to be admitted that it's a pretty poor website!

I believe the first boat they sold was a 245 for home completion (back in April).

Where are the Hunter Europa moulds?

7.07m is a rotten length for a cruising boat, because so many regulations - lighting and so on - kick in at 7.0m. That's one reason why the Hunter 701 flopped when it replaced the 19/Europa.
 
I can't believe that anyone ready to spend a 5 figure sum on a new boat will be that put off by needing to buy a bi-colour nav light.
