Britain's best beach

Re: Britain\'s best beach

Yes I have although (coughs nervously, shuffles feet and looks away) it was in a RIB rather than a yacht. A couple of years ago we cruised all the way around the Hebrides stopping in Castlebay Barra, Mavaig (which is when we stayed at Baile Na Cille) and Stornoway. Absolutely fantastic part of the world which is why we went back by plane last year and are going again this year!

Tiree

How about that then!! One of 12 on the one island and stunning - not much use for anchoring at I admit but lovely to look at! Ambition to one day sail there but will need very settled weather

Re: Chapel Porth

As im sure most of you are aware "Chapel Porth" is on the North coast of Cornwall.
Surrounded by abandoned tin and copper mines.
Very pretty beach also sadly "very deadly for the inexperienced"

Strong tides! last place you would ever want to beach a boat, unless its a surf canoe!
Excellant for Bass fishing at night and very popular with the surfers.
Only Grouse you are likely to see there though "will be out of a bottle".

If you look carefully in the background of Jimmies excellant pic you can make out Godrevy Island on which stands Godrevy Lighthouse, It is also where the St Ives lifeboat "Eliza Stych" was cast upon the rocks in a storm many years ago. not sure of the date, 90 yrs would only be a guess, but still very much remembered locally.
The wreckage of which was burnt on the rocks.
All the crew were lost.
Just mentioned it as a point of interest!

Lunan Bay between Montrose and Arbroath takes some beating IMHO

Re: Chapel Porth

Jimi, I'd have thought better of you than this... you and all the rest of you... no icecream sellers, no loungers, no donkey rides... you guys have clearly never been to a PROPER beach... BRIGHTON, for example.

Sit there on a deck-chair, sucking rock with BRIGHTON written all the way through, with a knotted hanky keeping the sun off, and trousers rolled up to yer knees. Now, THATs what a beach is all about !!

Re: Chapel Porth

Sorry, the stones rule Brighton right out. The only finish for a beach is soft sand. Anything else is too painful on my delicate tootsies.
