Not sure I'd ever describe a petrol powered small cabin cruiser / speedboat as a "sea going " boat. Try coping with an F6 in the channel in it and see what I mean. I've seen dozens such boats towed into Cardiff after engine probs.

You would be much safer in a sailing boat! And bear in mind that you are likely to end up paying road type petrol prices in the next year or so. What will it do? Maybe 1 mpg maybe 2 at a guess. So Cardiff to Swansea maybe £200?

As a raggie, I'm guessing at the fuel consumption, but its something you should check.

Must admit i would rather be on a sail boat round here....atleast you have the speed unless engine packs up!
Best advice is stay well off shore. I learnt the hard way in bay of biscay...... F9 coming in, so headed 400 nm offshore!
It is safer believe me. Maybe also get a drogue to keep the boat happy?

How true!
Our 21 ft petrol boat broke down off Watchet last year, in a force 6-7!
Very scary! We are now buying a bigger twin diesel cruiser.
Don't how how to drive a sailing boat.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
