Was on the Severn on Saturday, and the lock keeper at the Upper Lode said that there were thousands (well a few anyway) boats arriving from Bristol. Apparently a heavy night in Gloucester had delayed a few.............

Was this rumour true? Any boats that I might have recognised?

Yes that was probably us, but we were coming back from Bristol and there were eleven of us.

That sounds like what we call the "Birmingham Navy". Whole load of river cruisers out of sharpness toddling off down the estuary nose to tail like |Nellie the elephant and her pals

Used to be the case that this allowed them to be classed as sea going boats and escape some of the inland waterway rules.

I was asking rafiki as he seems to think that anything over 40ft on a river is a barge, I think he is thinking of a canal.
