When was the last time that anybody bought a gallon of fuel?

White diesel is about £1.30 at the local garage that's about £5.90 a gallon!

No matter what make of adjustable, seriously, why the hell would anyone grab a nut or bolthead just on two sides when you can get it on all six?
If you are aware of a tool that can grab any plumbing couplers (just to make one of several possible examples) on all six sides, I'm all ears.
Besides, did you ever try a Knipex Cobra?
I can assure you that I've seen nuts removed with it, after giving up with a fixed spanner, which was going to damage them.

I'm all for going back to Imperial......in fact I'd back it every inch of the way.
LOL, are you going to explain us that it's also more logical, next?
I understand the convenience of sticking to what you are used to, of course.
Otoh,I half remember an old debate where someone, after being told that it can be worth changing your old habits whenever it's for the better, posted some overcomplicated reasons for the superiority of imperial.
It was hilarious! :D

Hello Mr All Ears

The only reason people like to use kilometres is it sounds like they're getting more for their money:D

are we yet in the lounge?

if so, may I ask if the plan post brexit is to change engineering and contruction units back to imperial? That'll be fun...

Don't be ridiculous. The construction industry went metric in 1972 . Hardly anyone still employed in construction will have worked in imperial.

I know, hence asking but you destroyed the chances of dragging this thread a few more pages, pity... :p

Its not about buying a gallon of fuel and in any case its easy to convert gallons to litres and vice versa. Its about having an easy ready reckoner to calculate the amount of fuel used for a cruise of a particular length and about comparing the relative fuel economy of different boats. Personally I find it easier to use a figure of say 0.5 nmpg than 9 lpnm and easier to compare relative economy of different boats using nmpg rather than lpnm. Maybe its my age as well. When I started boating everybody talked in terms of nmpg and nobody had heard of litres;)

Thats not to say I do not know my way around the metric system which I have used for decades at work but I just think that nmpg is too useful to be pensioned off

For once, I agree with you :D
