Standard soup cans and the like, fit nicely inside 3" diameter down pipes. With a cutout at the bottom, they are ideal for vertical storage (which suits us in the saloon table). Pull out the bottom one and the rest drop down.

Standard size is now 68mm:(
 
That is not the proper Corinthian yachtsman's way, which is that tins should be chucked higgledy-piggledy into the dampest and most inaccessible locker; where they will soon go rusty and shed their labels, which will turn into pulp and block the bilge pump strum box.

The culinary equivalent of Russian Roulette.
