It was busy in Harwich Harbour yesterday, a great sailing day.
Brilliance of the Sea departed and was in contact on CH71 with HHA
Same class as the sister ship below
Approaching Languard the engines went in astern as a yacht sailed across its bows, Brilliance gave three short blasts on its horn.
The master called HHA to give the name of the yacht, HHA repeatedly called it on 71 without success so dispatched a pilot boat to the yacht to get it to call 71. I was surprised given that the maneouver was 'brave' at best that HHA said " you carried out a dangerous manouever under the bows of the ship, you embarrassed the master and pilot, in the same situation next time wait at the Guard Buoy until the ship has passed. Please also ensure you are listening to 71 in HHA area"
Two mins later HHA called back said yacht on 71 - no answer.
I won't name the offending yacht but got me to thinking what are the penalties that can be imposed for this sort of behavior?
