Thinking about buying a small boat and sleeping onboard 2 or 3 nights a week to make getting to and from work a lot more enjoyable, anyone else keep a boat there? whats it like? any good? is there any boaty folk there during the week?

Cheers

Stephen

We keep our boat there but don't liveaboard except during summer weekends. However there are a number of people with boats at the marina who liveaboard all year round so you would not be alone. There are also people who live in flats at the marina and keep boats there. I know that a number of the residents use the yacht club as a meeting place but I haven't sampled the scene myself!
The marina facilities are generally well kept and regularly cleaned and the security is fairly good. You are probably already aware of the number of eating places, shops and supermarket on the site so you won't need to go far for supplies.

You might want to check the berthing availability at Brighton before making firm plans - they are just about to start the process of reducing the length of some of the pontoons as part of a big building project. Someone told me that the total number of berths lost is about 80 and I do know there is quite a bit of juggling going on to find homes for all the displaced boats.

there's a good social scene in Brighton, the livaboard community are a nice bunch on the whole. I'd rather be on East than on the West jetty. Parking not a problem in the berth holder's car park there. The multi story has a time limit, though I'm not aware of it being enforced. Don't be late paying dues - they are fast with the writs and chains!
Hope this helps.

The four hour limit doesn't apply to berthholders. Trying to park anywhere in the marina on a Sunday morning in the summer is a nightmare.

Your idea is a good one - I'm sure it'll make you commute more bearable. we spend 3 nights a week there (in summer) eventhough we live close by. Toilets and showers on the west jetty can be grim on summer weekends - sometimes to the point of unusable. Yes they are cutting back on the the number of berths because of the building works so space may get a bit tight. I understand they will use the inner harbour more - but this would mean locking in and out.
