Hi, I'm heading that way and not been before.
Draft 1m and I'm wondering how long +- HW I will be able to leave the marina.
Hoping to leave Wednesday morning with HW at 04:53 - how long a lie-in will I get?

I've done the calculation myself but it looks too early to me!
Anyone been there / done that?

Thanks in advance.

You should be fine up to 3 hrs either side of HW. There's a depth gauge at the entrance to the eastern part, visible from inside and from outside, gives the depth over the sill. Route in is via a port hand buoy and then a port hand withy.
Now managed by Brightingsea Harbour office.

The Yachtsmans Arms is a great place to eat as well as the Fork and Wine in the High St and the Rosebud on Hurst green if you like sea food. The old Uni sailing club is also a good drinking stop, very cheap drinks but you may have to sign in.
Also on Sunday the rowing club are doing an open day for anyone who wants to go rowing, the forecast looks great..............enjoy Brightlingsea!

Excellent visit. Kovalam has unusual items on the menu rather than the usual Indian 'chicken tikka masala'. We had a selection of starters, unusual but very good main course and washed down with cobra beer.
Ran out of room for more beer in the Yachtsmans - but it looked quiet on a Tuesday (maybe because everyone had gone to watch the local football club).

The town was indeed different. We found it a little run-down but the people we met were friendly, and a there's a good enough variety of local shops.

The waterside marina was a bit of a shock - it is so out of place and character IMHO. I cant believe it got planning permission.
We did moor in the marina so I guess it has its plus points - but no toilet / shower facilities except at the nearby yacht club is a bit strange. (And a bit of a long walk if your beer capacity is not great!)
Being on the mooring pontoons would not have been good as the water taxi limits you somewhat and gets expensive when added to the mooring costs.

Overall - I'd happily call again.

As much as i like visiting Brightlingsea i do think the price of the moorings out on the pontoons is too high in comparison to neighbouring destinations.

For me it was £20 a night and as you say you then have a probably £6-£10 on top for Water Taxi.
The marina is the same price.
That doesnt make sense, the pontoon should be cheaper.

In comparison in Tollesbury a few miles away approx the same £20 a night but electricity, walk on walk off.

As i say, IMHO - i want to like Brightlingsea but i think its too pricey for what it is.

Kovalaam is a Southern Indian restaurant, and so (because of the hotter climate) there is a lot of vegetarian food. I first tried such food at a restaurant called Woodlands in Marylebone Lane in London, but to have one close is excellent, things like Dhosa and Paper Dhosa are so different

I reckon the Kovolam is great, certainly the best Indian restaurant I ever go to and I got to quite a few around where I live. It was heaving when we were there a few weeks ago and they still managed to produce brilliant food without a long wait.

If you are walking on and off in Tollesbury I hope you have brought a bike.

Perhaps you need to bring your wheelchair? Our children thought nothing of being marched into the village from the landing in the creek in order to sit outside the pub while their father had his pint inside if it was raining.

I think they had a related restaurant in London (somewhere near Hampstead IIRC?) at which we ate before trying Kovalam; I agree entirely about the difference!
