Brightlingsea marina

I haven't visited brightlingsea for quite a few yrs and just wondering about the new marina there ? What's it like , good / bad , are there decent facilities ? , I'm aware of the river pontoon but would prefer to be able to walk ashore ....

Does anyone have views on it ?

Tidal restricted with tidal flow across the entrance.
my former marina neighbour is based there with a bilge keeler, he loves it but he would say that, where ever he is,its better than anywhere else.
his boat sails sideways BUT "He can get to places i cant"

We went in there a few times last year. It's ok, you can walk ashore, showers are at the yacht club. depending on what you draw.... you can get in 1hr 30 mins before HW.
However, it is really silting up in there. your keel will defo be in the mud (but its v soft).
Its also sheltered if it's windy.

We normally stop there, as we usually have the dog, who insists that she needs walking 4 - 5 times a day.
For us it is cheaper than the pontoons and water taxi. £11 + £4 each walk for both of us to walk her. £16 for a night in the Marina.
Electricity is free, unless that has changed. Water is available, and 24 hour access ashore. We normally manage about HW plus or minus 3 with 1.4 metre draught.
The marks on the entrance have proved to be accurate so far.
Visitors now encouraged to go in the section on the outside (left of Tillergirl's phot above)
Can get bumpy at HW if the wind picks up.

Drying mud berths, ok if you get a yacht berth, less so if you get a mobo one. Not run by the Harbour Commisioners any more, small portacabin near toilets, See http://www.brightlingseaharbour.org/brightlingsea_marina.html for number to call.

Many thanks all , we will give it a try in next week or two , been doing some planning with the new east coast rivers book whilst stuck in BYH , making a dash for Suffolk tomorrow as fed up with Essex ....

I was there a few weeks ago (but staying on the pontoons). As previously stated, it dries out completely. The complex is looking quite tatty. It was never finished, and is being sold off. There are some public toilets within the complex. There are also a whole row of shops, only one of which is occupied (a café). It all looks a bit sad.

However, it is cheap if you can get in and take the mud, and walk-ashore access makes it convenient.

Must stay there some time.
