Hot off the press news, not yet officially announced the Brightlingsea Harbour Master, Robin Cole will be leaving the post in April this year .

Hopefully his replacement will not be chosen from within the existing harbour staff as there is a serious shortage of experience there.

Current management is not really keeping things on track and the extra staff seem to exist mainly to show a huge wage bill to justify raised berthing prices.

The current ' Dredging' programme using an old Dory and some water pumps is as embarrassing as it is futile, simply lifting up dirty water and putting it down again six feet away. Of more concern is the lack of safety certification on the conversion.

It would be interesting to put a costing in place with regard to the entire operation but it is highly unlikely that a considered calculation can be made.

There is a movement under way within the harbour to start a ' Harbour users/ Berth holders Association'. Some former employees of the harbour are willing to give time to this endeavour and should be a valuable asset to the formation of the new organisation.

Updates will be available as news arrives.

Sad Robin is leaving, i had a great time with all staff last year Brightlingsea does seem to have a high turnover of harbour masters, wonder why. Wish robin all the best whatever direction he heads
Indeed, very sad that he is off...a decent bloke! Cannot agree with the 'high turnover in harbourmasters' though!
Bernie was HM for many years (10 plus) with Robin being his replacement IIRC. But with Robins intentions of going long term cruising...hey! who can blame him?

A little bird told me last night that Bernie would like it to be known that he is thinking of re-applying for his old job. Actually, he isn't, but he reckons this should put the wind up a lot of folk.

Yes good luck Robin, agree we do not turn over Harbour Masters, both Benie and Robin did a great job. Fair winds Robin, I heard you will be doing some long distance sailing, think of us all left in the cold!!

Agree and good luck to Robin for the next chapter. Always kind and helpful to me. I hope his successor is in the same vein.
