To be sure, that is part of the equation. But you do not provide another part: how many 30 footers were sold in the 70's and how many 45 footers are sold now?
(I don't know, and it's a genuine question.)
I think the BMF could offer an answer… I would imagine not very many back then and quite a lot more today.
However you only need to look at the marinas on the S Coast to get some idea of the numbers and sizes of new boats being bought. And I deliberately say the S Coast because they have the facilities to move with the market.
