But perhaps Dazedkipper does not have a buoy to swap

No, I do and I am more than happy for people to use it when my boat isn't there, and although I pay for the purchase and upkeep of the mooring myself I do NOT charge people to use it. It is as Sailorman says, swapsies, which is tradition on the east coast unless a specific facility had been provided solely for visitors.

Didn't realise me relocating to Pin Mill would have such an impact on their finances.

Up to 26 feet (8 metres) £13.00
26 feet (8 metres) – 36 feet (11 metres) £15.00
26 feet (11 metres) – 50 feet (15 metres) £18.00
Short stay up to 3 Hours £5.00

New HM is Steven Chick ex RN - I served with a Steve Chick - wonder if same chap! If it is this chap then is same person. Not a yottie as far as I am aware. http://cjoscoe.org/deputydirector.html

Blimey. If it is the same guy isnt he is a bit high powered for Bsea ?

My thoughts too.

But there can't be more than one serving 'Steve Chick' surely. You could probably get the whole of the RN on to the Brittlesea Fisherman's Pontoon!

Plus, he 'lives in Somerset and has a house in France'. Going to be a culture shock when he arrives.

From the Harbour web site :- As you may have heard Robin Cole is leaving us soon and will be sailing off shortly after Easter. We will miss him and wish him all the very best.

We interviewed for a new harbour master recently and are delighted that Steven Chick will be joining us. Stephen is currently in the Royal Navy and living in the USA so it will take him a while to pack up and move here and is due to start in early July. In the meantime please do not hesitate to contact any of the harbour staff.
Don't know whether that throws any moe light on the matter? As regards an increase of 30% in the harbour charges...hmmm probably not a very bright move, but then again I guess that costs are increasing and the number of vailabl berths are only finite.

Hello all,

I would just like to introduce myself firstly. I am Danny Cook, Manager of Waterside Marina in Brightlingsea.

As I have been reading through the posts on this thread, I notice that a lot of annoyance has occurred due to the increase of visitors / resident mooring fees at Brightlingsea Harbour.

I know what a lot of you think of the Marina at Brightlingsea, but all has changed since BHC are no longer in management (apart from the silt!) We have been managing the Marina basin itself since April last year, but the development for the last six years.

Since taking over management, we have made some changes; We have installed a 'Depth over Sill' gauge, giving you an accurate depth reading, changed electricity supplies to visitors pontoons to 16amp supply, all surrounding lighting has been modified, new signage, giving clear indication of where to go, and what to do Waterside Marina Visitors Information board, showing you all the necessaries, Installed free Wi-Fi

We are currently in the process of applying to have a capital dredge done at Waterside Marina, so we will be back to 2m depth below sill level. The visitors berths (pontoons A&B) currently have approx 1-2 ft of water at LW.

I would just like to make you aware that we have NOT increased our prices, we are currently at the rate of £2.00 per meter per night from April 1st - October 31st, and £1.50 per meter per night from November 1st - March 31st.

I would also like to add that for this price you will receive; Electricity, Fresh water, Walk Ashore access, Security, Showers, Free Wi-Fi, Lite Pontoons! all inclusive of £2.00 or £1.50 a meter (depending on the season)

If you would like any more information, please do not hesitate to contact me, and please don't stop coming to Brightlingsea - Its beautiful.

10m boat overnight at Brightlingsea is now £15 inc VAT, Bradwell chargd £18.69 plus VAT last year - how is this cheaper than Brightlingsea??

Simple 'rithmatic innit ? £15.00 mooring, no electricity on pontoons, £1.00 per person each way on water taxi, pay £1.00 for watering vessel at Colne Yacht Club.

Say two trips ashore and back for crew of two, £8.00, £15.00 mooring, watering £1.00 result £24.00 cost for overnight stay with rapidly flattening leisure batteries if using a fridge.

Bradwell, £18.69 +VAT= £23.00ish. with unlimited electric, all the fresh water you can use and walk ashore.

Cheaper to go into Waterside

Hi Danny

Could you please expand on this. By 'applying' what do you mean? Who are you applying to? What are the costs involved and how is this major operation to be funded?

Before I left Brightlingsea last year the general consensus on the street was that dredging would be prohibitively expensive, if not physically impossible.

Hi Danny

I was planning to visit Brightlingsea this year. I have a bilge keeler draft 1 metre. I cant see how much tide I will need to get over the sill. (happy to sit in the mud at LW). The chart says -1.6m at LAT - how much more will I need to get over the sill?
Thanks

A number of the apartments are empty. Some were let to the windfarm people and one is occupied by a fella in a dirty vest who stands on his balcony alternately smoking and coughing his guts out.

In spite of Danny's enthusiasm the annual rate of £235.00/m pa is not bargain basement. What you get is limited access to a mud berth, no parking, use of the public bogs and a walk to the Colne Yacht Club to fight for a shower.

Compare with say, Fox's (a little more expensive, granted) with its acceptable facilities, easy road access, on site chandlery, yacht club with charming Commodore, all tide and Waterside Marina starts to look a little sad.

(OK, I may have been a bit OTT about the yacht club Commodore).
