Evening all (in a non Police tone),

I just received an email from Tollesbury Cruising Club and within it they mentioned that Brightlingsea have increased their harbour fees by around 30% !!

Were others aware of this? It's quite a hike for us poor sailors!

Didn't realise me relocating to Pin Mill would have such an impact on their finances.

Up to 26 feet (8 metres) £13.00
26 feet (8 metres) – 36 feet (11 metres) £15.00
26 feet (11 metres) – 50 feet (15 metres) £18.00
Short stay up to 3 Hours £5.00

New HM is Steven Chick ex RN - I served with a Steve Chick - wonder if same chap! If it is this chap then is same person. Not a yottie as far as I am aware. http://cjoscoe.org/deputydirector.html

Dial in the water taxi charges for 2 people evening and morning, makes £23 for 11m boat, no longer a cheap overnight stay. In danger of killing the golden goose I think. :ambivalence:

Shame was a favorite destination, but no longer.

Another harbour suffering the results of the black hole of the Pilot Pension Fund deficit.
If you think that's expensive try it down here in the West Country!

What about West Mersea?, we have got water, and that is important to yachtsmen

Yeah, WM used to be a favourite place to visit, and spend money ashore, but since they started charging for the use of a bouy I (and a lot of others) have stopped going there. Rearrange the following, "foot, oneself, the, shot, in" to get a well known expression, lol. I suspect that B'sea will be getting quieter from now on too.

As far as I know, a charge has always been made for the use of a buoy, why shouldn't it? the buoy has to be bought and maintained

The harbour commission at Brightlingsea puts more emphasis on profit every year. It's very odd for a non-profit making organisation. There was a proposal recently to charge longer boats more per foot than shorter ones on the grounds that they are wider and deeper too!

Building Societies used to be the same, mutual but waste & empire building were the order of the day
