Brexit Formalities for Cross Channel Boaters

In Exmouth there was a customs officer who collected them, but about 25 years ago he, or his post, disappeared and the dock master was given the job of emptying the box and keeping the forms for inspection by any visiting customs officer. This never happened. I asked what he did with them, he replied he waited until his drawer was full and then filed/chucked them in the bin.

I was told the process was exactly the same in Guernsey.

As at our then YC in Poole. We had a time when my American Admiral had to check in and out with immigration, aka customs then, which entailed going to Poole Quay /ferry port but but the local customs officers in their local patrol boat got to know us so well that we would call in by newly acquired mobile phone from a few miles out and they would come alongside us as we entered the harbour and stamp her passport in there each time so no need to wait the 2 hrs for clearance. each time usefully giving her another 6 month visa extension (they only had stamps for one, three or six months). Once she became Mrs Robin officially with ILR in UK and no need to check in/out we lost touch with the friendly revenue folk, one of whom had a Canadian spouse.

I think I will have to make or buy a new 'Q' though now or modify an old duster but mobos are less easy to fly flags from than sailboats with spreaders. maybe could tape one to a fishing rod or vhf aerial, damned inconvenient this 'ere Brexit carp. :poop:

As i'm Irish, can I trundle out of a UK port with a UK flag on it then slap an Irish flag on it when I go to France and then returning to the UK raise a uk flag? If yachts aren't registered officially can I declare the yacht nationality at will??

Flags, ensigns and flag etiquette (sailingissues.com)

"The vessel's national flag - not necessarily the same nationality as the skipper or owner - should be displayed at the stern of the yacht; however on traditional yachts, placement on the main leech or gaff is historically more correct. If the crew's nationality differs from that of the yacht, the crew's national flag can be flown under the courtesy flag at the starboard spreader. Likewise the nationality of an important guest on board is displayed this way."

So the nationality of the boat should not be changing half way across the channel.
Nice Try
