Well that's what my insurance says for my current cruising area. But what are the boundaries ? does it include S Ireland and how far South of Brest can I go. One would assume to 48 Degree's North which then would include Camarat.

Not asked the insurance company yet, just wondered if there was anyone in the know.

Just planning the summer holiday.

TIA

I think it's normally "home waters plus Brest to the R. Elbe". Normally a phonecall and possibly a small surcharge is all that is required to extend it as the need dictates. St Margarets just increased our area down to La Rochelle FOC.

We insure with GJW with the same cover.

It covers us to Brest which I assume includes Camaret. However whenever we approach camaret we ring and tell them and extend our area by a couple of hundred miles south ie La Rochelle. They normally increase the excess but dont charge us. I seem to remember in the past seeing something that excluded Ireland for boats on the South and east coast, but that might b out of date.

On two occasions I phoned the insurance company on the mobile while motoring down the Kiel Canal, and they extended it on the spot no extra charge (but slightly increased excess).

These days if you ring beforehand they will normally increase the range during summer months free of charge and many companies do this automatically without being asked, probably because it saves them lots of correspondence.

Yes, agree. We always ring them before shoving off and the cover is always given and, so far, has been free of charge. No alteration to excess either. We're with Bishop Skinner.
