Brest 2008

well it seems like a few are going to go , our boat Simo has been three times its a laurant giles vertue n currently based in gruisan in the south of france ( the cheaper end) I suppose we could go up through the canal du midi in the spring and then hop our way up, and have some fun ,

Been musing about this. I've a long-standing ambition to get Cleone up to the Peel Trad boat fest next summer but its a bit of a hike from south Devon, and Brittany is a lot closer. Given time constraints, I might just head South..
Still out on that one. Sortof registered with Brest, but don't want to commit. Might just get over for Douarnenez. Ummm dunno yet. Might persuade the Preston mob to come south. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I crewed my friends Dunkirk Little Ship Mary Jane to the Oostende festival this year and had a great time. Registered boats and crew get invited to several cocktail parties, free entrance to marine static dispays, 2 for 1 happy hour in the beer tent, free breakfast. To top it all 250lts of red diesel for the British boats, not sure what will happen next year.

The Calai festistval follows the next weekend so there's a week to sail down and catch that one.

Were planning to take Lazy Days and Mary Jane so if any off you are at either or both, drop by for a chat and maybe knock the tops of a few!!!!! both boats are fitted with top opening gas powered b--r fridges.

We'll be on the look out for any other festivals we can find in Belgium and Holland, ending the season at the Antwerp festival as we did this year.

Brest, as someone said before is mega-crowded. Duarnanez is smaller and in a nicer place. However, the flotilla of sailing ships en-route from Brest to Duarnanez is amazing. Rouen takes place at the same time as Brest in 08, we have never been there and may take that in next year. Ostend Voor Anker is a great little festival, too. We sail and sing maritime songs, so these types of festivals are just the ticket for us. There are quite a few in UK, too. We have visited many of them as crew and as musicians, very different experiences of the same thing.

Go to at least one, you'll have a great time

Sue
