Hi folks does anybody have a history of leaky Bravo three outdrive cant find where it is leaking the engineer has removed the drive twice.
first time changed the gear cable, second time replaced the upper & lower steering pins and changed all the hoses & gaiters.
it's still leaking seems to be coming from the transom if you put your hand above the gear cables where the bell housing tapers off water drips on to your fingers any ideas would be appreciated

regards
Neth

any evidence of water ingress into the engine parts / boat ?

its not just dripping from being taken out of the water ?
mine drips for quite some time after being hosed down.

If not the steering arm point (well known), it may well be the transom shield seal it’s self. Not uncommon to see boats with the transom shield tatted up and sealed externally using sealant around the join tk the transom.

They usually leak past the upper steering pin, I see 5 or 6 each season! Its the design of the seal, its hard plastic with the lips facing inwards....? I rebuild them with a double lipped seal from a seal specialist and also retrofit a grease nipple just above the pin on the outside of the transom so you can pump grease in. If its left too long the aluminium where the seal sits erodes and then the transom is scrap as there is nothing to hold the new seal in place, and sometimes the pin is too badly pitted for a new seal to seat. I repaired my own boat 7 yrs ago when I bought it abd I machined the steering pin down and fitted a stainless sleeve so the seal had a shiny flat surface, I give it a shot of grease once a year and its still better than new.
If you look where the steering arm comes in you will see if its wet just on the flat section under the arm, if the leak is more over to starboard it could leaking past the plastic fitting where the drive oil reservoir hose couples to the shield. The other places could be in the center under the steering arm where the trim sensor wires come in, or around the cooling water inlet if you have that or the speedo hose coupling but I have never seen these leak personally. You need a mirror on a stick and a torch to check properly. PM if you need more info.

When I installed mine it leaked. It turned out to be the built in speedo pipe. I wasn't using it and I forgot to block it.
