I have recently considered upgading my outdrives from 2 to 3 {singe prop. to duo} Does anyone know if the legs only are a straight swop? Also I have heard that B3's are much more unreliable. Fact or fiction? Dave.

Leg alone is not a straight swap - not even between BIII's.
Firstly BIII's come in a number of guises - which are you looking at and why?
Secondly why do you consider them an upgrade over your existing drives?

You imply you have twin drives already so you may well have an optimum set up already.

BIII's will be more efficient but increase drag and weight significantly.

Mercruisers material outlines the product uses quite clearly.

Being large, and already heavy, Mercruiser seem to have been pushing the limits over the alloys they used to minimise the weight which, when wedded to large SS props, has has significant issues for galvanic corrosion. I get through around 2 1/2 sets of anodes a year! Oil capacity is nearly 3 ltres and recomended change on the BIII is 50hours!!!!!(most seem to run theirs a season though)
Finally, as indicated by the evolving versions available, there have been problems transmitting the power of the increasingly powerfull diesel engines they get married to.
Generally the latest/strogest versions seem to be handling things OK but it's early days for some - and has been bad news for many in the past.

Bravo II drives are one of Mercs better efforts, on a twin set up you will certainly have contra rotating props anyway (if she was set up right from new) if not then just replace with Bravo II contra rotating for a majour improvement. This way if the current drives are OK you can just replace 1.

Hey, a fool and his money is soon parted.

All Bravo's are run in reverse for contra-rotation. You do not have to buy a left hander as you do on an Alpha, you just connect the shift cable up "the other way" on the remote!!!!
