Bratcentric society

[ QUOTE ]
What I am EXTREMELY intolerant of are those knuckledraggers who just stand by, or even encourage, their brats to make life a misery for the rest of us.

[/ QUOTE ] That is the problem. "They're just kids" "They're just having fun" is not an excuse for noisy, sometimes dangerous, usually inconsiderate behaviour.
I was following a little girl at the seaside a couple of years ago. She finished her ice cream tub and gave it to her father saying "I've finished, it needs throwing away" and that's exactly what her father did, threw it on the ground. I like to think she meant it needed to go into a bin.

Get a length of Nylon rope, attach to opposite pontoon and winch tight. If a bona fide boat comes along you can let it sink. Attach something hi-vis so it's a deterrent, not a booby trap /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Face it, they behave badly everywhere else, why should they change in a marina or anchorage!

So next time you want a bit of peace and they're sounding off, turn up your cd player or radio really loud and wait for the reaction of the parents. Then simply say "sorry, am I disturbing you?' with a look at says it all!

At least in a marina there are lots of ropes and cables for the little sweethearts to trip over, and you can't hear them from the local hospital while they are waiting to be patched up!

I dont have kids and im not a great fan of them but.....i would never dream of asking someone to keep thier kids quiet and i would expect a punch on the nose if i did ! Ive found inviting the kids onboard to tidy up and serve me beer keeps them quiet and gives the parents a welcome break . ( im speaking about the kids of parents i know not anyones kids )
I find it quite funny that kids will jump of a gorgeous boat to play on my crappy old boat . Then again i dont tell them off !

Umm why not a booby trap?

Because the parents will sue you and you'll have to flog the boat to pay them off /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: we see it all

At what end of the social spectrum do the 'Knuckledraggers' Exist then?

We see them all down here in our little tourist haven and the worst are the time share owners, supposed to have pockets lined with gold and to be able to afford a timeshare in Scilly they probably have. Now their offspring can be something to behold when it comes to destroying the peace and quiet of a nice anchorage they will not think twice about planing through at twenty plus knots shrieking and hollering, thats the older more responsible child not quite old enough to legally buy a drink but allowed to roar around with between 150hp and 200hp on the back of something not very big. Then there is the moneyed lot with young kids obviously when in the city both parents work and the kids are looked after by nanny, now that they are on holiday without nanny neither wants to have to keep an eye on them and the shops are treated like a playground they are given free reign to do anything because their parents do not have a clue how to control them.

At the other end of the scale we get the holidaymaker who wants to spend time in Scilly on a budget and perhaps stays at the campsite they do not just chuck money at their kids to keep them happy they do everything with them and keep them entertained and under control without having to blackmail them or use a rod of iron.

At the end of the day kids (rich or poor) will be kids, kids cry, kids scream, kids laugh and play and have fun, I vaguely remember being one myself once.

If the kids that are annoying you are doing something dangerous to you or themselves say something to their parents its a community thing to do. If they are just making noise then I think thats what they call tough luck thats what kids do.

If the option is available why not just move somewhere quieter, if its not then just live in the hope that they must eventually sleep.
