Brass rubbing bands

Anyone have any pictures of brass rubbing bands on painted wooden hulls that I could look at? Thinking about an upgrade but trying to visualise!

I don't have any pictures, but a couple of thoughts come to mind. On elegant recreational craft, especially ones of 25ft length or less, half-oval [A.K.A. half-round] strip is the one to use. If your boat has working origins and the workboat style is being retained, then flat strap is probably more appropriate. Either way fastening should be by bronze screws, not brass. An elegant finish could be obtained by tapering the end to about half of the original width, and then finishing with a round nose.

If you only want about 12mm 1/2 round, the vintage car factors such as Complete Automobilist do brass strips which are lead filled, and have projecting pins at approx 100mm centres. Gently tap on, using a length of softwood as a cushion between the mallet; gives completely concealed fixings.

New brass strip fitted last year........... dosen't quite look so shiny after a season.

Thanks guys. Well they're going on. And with 2 full length rubbing bands and one extra at the stern, going to be a bit of brass on her.

Might nicely buffer the odd lock side and look good too!
