I don't have any pictures, but a couple of thoughts come to mind. On elegant recreational craft, especially ones of 25ft length or less, half-oval [A.K.A. half-round] strip is the one to use. If your boat has working origins and the workboat style is being retained, then flat strap is probably more appropriate. Either way fastening should be by bronze screws, not brass. An elegant finish could be obtained by tapering the end to about half of the original width, and then finishing with a round nose.

If you only want about 12mm 1/2 round, the vintage car factors such as Complete Automobilist do brass strips which are lead filled, and have projecting pins at approx 100mm centres. Gently tap on, using a length of softwood as a cushion between the mallet; gives completely concealed fixings.
