Brass lamp refurbishment

I have similarly restored our cabin lights and finally used a zapon lacquer. Two years later it still looks good.
This is how the lights looked before:
and so they look now:
What a difference!
I have cleaned yesterday's lacquer off and will give it one more go today. It that fails I will try to source some zapon, which doesn't appear to be commonly available in the UK.

Best way to restore brass is to dunk in an ammonia bath then dry off in sawdust. I'm told by a clock restorer.

Interesting, but let's just say that your clock restorer and my wife would not see eye-to-eye.

Thorough cleaning with meths before re-lacquering and a turntable have produced better (acceptable just) results that I am willing to live with.
