Brass hinges

2"x¾" solid brass c/w brass pins 50p/pair from local hardware shop. Bought 20 pairs plus box of brass screws for £10.

When it comes to screws I would advise not to buy brass. They tend not to last and in a damp environment dezincify relatively quickly. On my refurbishment nearly all the brass screws sheared or the slots crumbled away as soon as torque was applied. I used stainless and the boat builder (A&R Way, Lochgilphead) who did the cabinet work also used stainless. Of course if you brass in your application the boat is not going to sink!

Thank you - the difference, I see (https://www.topclasscarpentry.com/category/Hurlinge-Hinges/), being that in a flush hinge the knuckle projects from only one side of the leaves, but in a hurl hinge (or hurlinge) is offset (‘hurled’, I presume?) to be more centralised to the leaves, giving a more symmetrical appearance between door and frame.

I would suggest that if you enlarge the first image & study the inner leaf you will see that it is the same. The picture in the first image is from the back of the hinge. The pin is offset in both types

The image in the link I gave? I was paraphrasing the explanation of the difference given on that website.
