Brand new QL Bow thruster failure

I have just taken delivery of a new Elan Impression 434 with a QL bow-thruster. On the third day out and after a short burst on the bow thruster it gave up the ghost and the fore cabin filled with acrid smoke, Has anyone else ever had a similar problem?

No, but this is probably a warranty issue so the first people to contact are the suppliers - Premier Yacht Sales, presumably. It sounds as if either the motor has failed, the installation has failed (something in the wiring, connectors etc) or something lodged in the thruster tube stopping the impellors

Thanks for that. Yes it is Premier Yacht Sales and they are on the case but the complication is that the boat is now in Croatia. The agents that Elan Yachts recommended us to say that they do not believe that this is a Volvo Warranty issue.

Further to that - There is supposed to be a thermal cutout to protect the motor from overheating - particularly from something trapped in the prop tube.

I am lost for the word, but our Vetus has a pin which snaps if something gets stuck in the tube. (there are now 4 pins in a packet taped to the top of the thruster)

How can it not be a warranty issue..... what do they say has caused it?

That's what it says on the tin! It's clearly age creeping up on me... thank goodness they are working on a solution!

In fairness they have not yet reported on cause and Premier Yachts clearly believe that it is a warranty issue - it is just the Croatian agent that has said that it is not.
