i am new to the forum so please forgive any obvious howlers! So i have a Windy Mirage 25 and she has just had a replacement brand new genuine Volvo marine turbo fitted. The old one was working but developed a crack on the connecting metal flange creating an exhaust leak. I opted for the proper part at the usual inflated price of about £2,000 plus another £1,000 for fitting. Before changing the turbo i had driven the boat for about 300 hours since purchasing about 3 years ago. She performed as advertised as a 40 knot boat on a good day with a following wind and she was very energetic on the take off. New turbo fitted and engine serviced with oil change filters (fuel and air etc) After sea trial she can now only make 27 knots in the end. Take off is smooth but it is not energetic. Engineer and others think it’s a dirty bottom but i am not convinced. However i am having her lifted and scrubbed next week. If it is not that what do members think is the likely cause. Engine management is EDC and boat is 2001.

You'd have been better off asking the question before you bought the turbo because you can buy exactly the same OEM Turbo direct from Turbo shops for £800. And £1000 for fitting sounds very expensive too (unless it include exhaust elbows, etc).

However, the chances that the loss or performance is down to a dirty bottom / props.

Anything nasty stuck down the exhaust, left over from the previous issue ? Anything possibly passed into the intercooler from the old turbo perhaps ?

Not sure if this will work but try to calibrate throttle.... I believe this is possible with Kad44/EDC
I have a KAMD44, same engine and I recalibrated the throttle. An easy procedure but I doubt that it is the issue, Worth a try though.
Process of elimination - do the bottom scrub and go from there. One step at a time so that you know what the issue was.

I also think that you need to do a visual inspection of the exhaust pipe! And after that draw conclusions)))
