We posted a brief warning on the ECP website about the N. Cardinal post at the entrance to Bradwell but I might as well bung it on here too.
Apparently it got thumped by a passing boat (which was going quite fast) and is damaged and leaning over. More importantly it's not known yet if the light is still working, pending inspection by the Blackwater river bailiff.

Oh dear and no it wasn't me - even with my revitalised engine "quite fast" is still unattainable.

On Sunday it was still showing tidal height 3 feet more than the actual water in the creek (between 2nd and 3rd cans).

An employee in the marina told me that they planned to dredge the creek sometime after June. Pigs might etc.

Well, it certainly wasn't PipeDream II doing a scrub off on the mark, as he is now in Shotley.
Quite fast rules out any Westerlys.

Dunno, must be a mobo. D3B on a jolly day out?

Oi! Dew!

I wont take you for a nice blast in the shipping lane :eek: again if you carry on with comments like that

I might have a jolly day out to Essex Boatyards soon.....Burton Waters dont seem to be doing a thing to try and sell the boat.

I seem to remember a Heybridge fishing boat on auto pilot while the skipper was head down doing things with fish hitting the baffle wall. Apparently it took a lot of pumping to get up to Heybridge! I would have thought it would withstand a yacht bouncing off it?

Not guilty m'lud. I hope the light still works as that creek in the dark is difficult enough without a sensible starting point.

So is a Cardinal Mark a Trinity House responsibility?
No, that doesn't follow. If you owned a nice creek you could put a cardinal mark in it and you'd have to look after it.
My understanding with this one is that it's the Maldon Council in the shape of the River Bailiff who maintains the beacon, up to the standards required by T.H.

Ouch !!!. That used to be a full vertical if my memory is right, so seemingly it has taken a big knock. Come on Maldon Council et al, gret in there quick before "the cuts" come. Otherwise, it may be some time .......

Was still looking sickly yesterday afternoon

There was a tide guage on the saltings between Weymarks beach and the barges - I assume it had washed up on the shore and some kind person moved above high tide mark so as not to be a hazard to boats.
