Prompted by Colhel's current thread I was wondering what sufferers of BPH find/ have found to be the more effective treatments

Sorry option 5 should read a combination of 3 and 4

Not had it done but I worked on a urology ward and the patients had good results with TURPs but it should be a stepwise approach aka meds before surgery (normally). You should discuss the pros and cons of specific treatments with the consultant or your GP.

I thought this was a sailing forum?!

Getting advice from this forum on sailing matters can be fraught with danger so medical advice should pose no problems. Go talk to a urologist and while you're there ask him what is the best anchor!

I went through all of them except 6, 7 and 8. 9 was the one that improved the symptoms the most. All of the options take a fair amount of time to find out if they are doing any good. Best cure is don't wear light coloured trousers.

The mechanics are that as the prostate enlarges, it becomes harder to pee. Also, the bladder no longer empties as completely as before - so you need to pee more often.
Ladies don't normally get BPH.
