What size self inflating LJ should I get for an average sized 11 year old boy?

Would an adult LJ be to big.

He wants to sail but doesn't like the usual puffy orange kid lJs. If he had his own proper PFD like his Dad he'd be keener to come.

If he wants a proper inflating one he really should be trying one on in a chandlers, it will go on weight and several layers of warm clothing, it has to be comfortable to ensure he is happy to wear it for long periods. I think in your shoes currently I would ring several up and see if a workaround like click and collect can be suggested you really dont want to be posting stuff backwards and forwards

Crewsaver at least do “youth” ones, or used to. Not spending much time around kids I don’t really know what average 11-year-old size is, but possibly the straps on a basic model (ie not one of the more waistcoat-like modern designs) would go small enough. Length of torso (waist to shoulder) is probably the critical dimension.

Force 4 seem to be open now, at least some branches.

11 years is getting to large enough to use an adult size.

Crewsaver (and I presume others) do junior sizes of "150N" life jackets. These are rated by the weight of child - typically up to 50kg which is about a well grown 12 year old.

To be clear a 150N junior LJ is not 150N but less, scaled to the expected weight of the child

All to do with weight ?
My grandaughter aged 7 is a substantial young lady she has PINK lifejacket . Auto.
My grandson aged 7 is a streak of nothing and has a Black Pirate Lifejacket. . Auto.
My latest grandson aged 2 has a bright orange buoyancy vest.
All with crotch straps..
If you are not to far from a Decathlon, can recommend their Adult Lifejackets and wet weather gear.

I bought my daughter the Junior Spinlock.. great fit not, constrictive, straps underneath , she is extremely tall for her age 10 , but check the weight
it is expensive, but its my daughter , I wear the cheaper one and I gave the wife a rubber ring (y)

We have the Seago junior one; IIRC it's up to 50kg. Kids prefer the foam ones for some reason.

Depends on the size of the child. If you're interested, I have the one my crew wore about that age. It needs a service kit, because I left it in a damp cellar and the magic pellet disintegrated, but apart from that and some mildew stains it's fine and will certainly do the couple of years until he needs and adult one. PM me if you're interested. Nominal costs in the form of charity donation only.
