Boxing Day

Forcast according to Simon

On Sunday a ridge of high pressure continues to affect eastern parts of England, with an increasing southerly flow to the west as low pressure moves to the northwest of Ireland. This brings cloud and rain through Ireland, western Scotland, western Wales and the far southwest of England. To the east there will be some morning fog patches, although these slowly clearing. Gales in western areas with the winds S F8 but S F4-F5 in the east.

Not quite up to Guapacast standards, but Simon seems to be getting the hang of it :D:p

Yes, a half dozen or so boats from the Medway are out at lunchtime for a few hours of smoking up and down the river.

Beats watching TV!

The kids and the grandughter want to go for a sail on Boxing Day.
May well take them but it will only be around the Backwaters and may be out to Pye End.

Forecast looks halfway decent - at least no rain, and some wind.

Anyone out sailing?

We have the in-laws and my Mum on board for the day.
Planning to trundle down to the Stour and back (can't sail as they are off for laundering :().
May even drop the hook and have lunch at anchor as high water is mid afternoon.

It's a plot

I swear, it's a plot.

Number One child: When are we going sailing, dad? (like she doesn't know - it's been on the family planner for weeks  )
Me: Sunday - Boxing Day, like every (almost) year
Number One child: pout - pout - pout
Me: What?
Number One child: I had arranged to see Jason (the boyfriend)
Me: Tough - he can come along if he wants
Number One child: it might be too cold for him :confused: (wuss)
Me: (walking right into the trap) What does Mum think?
First Wife: Well, the Sales start on Sunday - and we could do X-Mas dinner tonight, I've got everything all ready. We'd go sailing tomorrow - I've checked the forecast on that website, seems OK to me.

And that's how the Pros do it - Hook, Line & Sinker :o:o

So, sailing tomorrow (X-Mas day) - all of you out on Sunday: Enjoy - have a good one.

X-Mas Dinner Chez Guapa tonight:

- Veuve Cliquot & nibbles
- Home made lobster bisque
- Venison ('fresh' from the forests of the Ardennes courtesy of younger brother)
- Home made Tiramisu
- Coffee & Cognac

Well we went down today.
Very little wind.
We didn't bother to put the sails on.
We went to have a look at the seals up Bramble Creek.
We went right up to the ship dock.
Only saw 2 seals ashore.
Plenty of heads popping up to look at us.

It was a bit cold but sunny.
Dropped the hook and put the eber on for lunch.
A nice day was had by all.

We set off from Foxs with the expected three rellies on board at 12:30.
Bit of a strange crunching noise as we turned to pass the fuel berth caused by ice still on the surface  Also some on the far side of the river in the shade (not as bad as last weekend when there was surface ice for a mile or so downriver - not seen that much ice in the 12 years of being based here).
Headed down as far as Shotley before turning back for home.
Several dingys out racing from the Royal Harwich at Woolverstone and about a dozen other boats out motoring and sailing.
Weather was bracing out of the sun but surprisingly mild in the sun and out of the breeze.
Once in the berth, copious amounts of mulled wine, followed by a hearty pheasant casserole made a warming return.
Everyone agreed it was a great trip.
Sometimes the simple pleasures are the best.
Happy New Year to all on the ECF.

Went down with the kids. Saw a few boats sailing on the river. Got and board and found that power was not connected despite best assurances by SYH. Hot water system frozen, and were parts of the cold water. Heating water level down for reasons yet to be determined. Snow and ice on the deck. Sorted heating system and fired up. Ran engine too.

Checked SYH voltages. Live - Neutral 3v, but Live to Earth 240. I doubt it has worked since I plugged in.

I sould have just left the boat on the river and saved my money.
