Not too sure what you can afford, but I have a Sadler 26 which is a great wee boat, utterly dependable and safe, and good to sail.

There is a Bowman 26 for sale at southwestern Yachtbrokers in Plymouth. It is pretty ropey, but I believe you could get it fairly cheap.

How much do you intend to spend? I bought the bigger version of the Macwester 26, a Macwester 30 4 years ago. It is very very solid and well built. They do not go to windward very well but I just turn the motor on. How often do you want to sit there banging away into the wind? If you are taking SWMBO she would rather have a bit more space than a boat that sails well into the wind.
My priorities were, strong construction, reasonable price, as much room as possible, good engine, bilge keel (I sail on the East Coast), reasonable rig and sails.
I have rewired, generally tarted-up, bought GPS, made sure everything works very very well so I am not likely to get let down unexpectedly, and enjoyed myself.
Some of my mates who said "does not go to wind very well", or even "does not sail very well" have been surprised just how well the boat does sail on most points of wind and have recently agreed that I bought a very good boat.
All IMHO.
Have a look at www.macwester.org at the for sale section. Good luck. Paul

Have a look at replies on "Sophies Choice" by Sophie4 below on this forum. Should give you some thoughts.

I nearly bought a Tomahawk once, but got delusions of grandeur and bought more expensive. They are rumoured to be excellent boats and fast as well. Beating into 30 knots up the Crouch earlier this year one sailed alongside me and was going really well. And said to be very strongly built .

I don’t remember any of those posts and I apologize for not responding…….I think Idid buy a boat in that period an Albin Vega, sold it just before the COVID as traepsing back and forth to Emsworth was too muchof a hassel

How long did it take you to decide on the purchase back then? Might give a clue how long we have to wait this time.

I just sold my very nice Seawolf 26 fin keel. Very good boat.

Most were bilge keels. The later mk ii and mkiii had better standing headroom. Perhaps more modern fit out style. Some were owner completed so standards can vary.
