The inner cable on the tacho drive on my Thorneycroft T90 has expired. I have tried all the normal sources of engine spares but with no luck as cable driven tachos are considered obsolete. I have had one offer of making up a cable but at a considerable price.

Does anyone know anywhere where I might be able to get one? It is about 6 feet long and 1/8 inch diameter.

Any help would be much appreciated.

the problem with replacing these cables is that the inner cable is squashed into a square section at each end so you have to have exactly the right length. if you are prepared to replace the whole cable with one of similar length you may be able to get something from a scrapyard or classic car spares company such as this

Thanks for this - I had contacted them and they said that they would make me one - but at a price. I was hoping to find one off the shelf which would be cheaper.

Scottie you're an ace. I take it this is the same Speedy cables that used to be in London N1. I lost their number several years ago and have not been able to trace them since they moved so as get a new steering cable made for a Telemorse no longer made. many thanks

Try talking to one of the bigger transport companies around our area. They may still have trucks that run with cable driven tachos or tachographs and if they do they'll be able to tell you who makes them up.
